Assessment FAQ

How do I get information about getting my child involved with the Select/Premier Program.

Refer to the assessment schedule. Find your child’s age group, register with the online system, and come to the designated dates.

Does my child have to attend all Assessments to earn a place on the Select/Premier team?

All potential players must attend at least one of the assessments to be considered for a place on the team, even returning players.  All potential players must register for assessments even if injury will prevent them from attending. We recommend that players attend all assessment dates for their age group.

Is my child guaranteed a spot on a team?

Coaches and the Director of Coaching will make the decisions for placement.  Your child will be placed on a team within Tri-Cities United that is commensurate to their ability.  This includes our Premier/Select Program and our Competitive Program.

How will I know if my child has made a team?

  • Within days of the last evaluation being completed for the specific age group/gender, an email will be sent out to all players who were assessed.
  • U10 - U12 players will be offered a spot for the Select Program in their age group or they will be offered a spot in our Competitive Program in their age group.
  • U13 - U19 players will be offered a Premier or Select Team spot in their age group or combination of age groups. If the level of a U13 - U19 player is assessed and is not commensurate with the level of the Select team in their age group an alternate plan will be offered to the player.
  • If a team does not form in one of the U13 - U19 age groups an alternate plan will be offered to that group of players.
  • Parents and athletes will then have one week from the date of receiving the acceptance email to accept their spot. After one week the acceptance window will close and you will not be able to accept your spot through the link originally provided. You will have to contact the Club Administrator at [email protected]

How do I register my child after they are selected?

During the assessment registration process, we begin to acquire preliminary information on placing your child on a team. Once a roster position is offered, that email will contain information to join the club and pay the first payment.

How much does it cost to play for Tri-Cities United?

Cost depends on the age group as well as how many months the team will participate. A payment plan with several options will make it fit almost any budget. Some teams play both Fall and Spring Season while other (mainly high school) teams only participate in either the Fall or Spring. The fees listed on the website only include the Club fees. These fees include registration, insurance, coaches and technical director fees, and field usage fees.  More information regarding specific pricing per age group will be released in the coming weeks.

How will my child’s location for practice be determined?

Most teams use Eastman Park in Kingsport, and a few use Winged Deer in Johnson City. The director of coaching and club admin will work with coaches to determine practice locations and schedules by July.

Do I designate whether my child is interested in Select or Premier before assessments?

No. All players will be evaluated equally and offered a roster spot based on their ability.  Our goal is to advise you of the appropriate level for your child. However, the ultimate decision will be up to your family on whether to accept a Select/Premier roster spot.

What if my child wants to “play up” (above their age division)?

Our club will take into consideration two factors when making the decision on who should play up. There are two major factors which will guide the club in this decision. First will be the players ability in comparison to the team they are to be on as a part of their birth year. The second consideration will be the amount of playing time a player would receive if the player were to be allowed to play up. The director of coaching will communicate which age group a player should attend if the club feels a player should tryout for an older age group.
